Costume Ideas

Celebrity Inspirations For Scenes:
This medium close up image is of Rihanna. A very successful pop/r&b/dance artist who has established herself in music throughout the years and is still going strong. This image portrays attitude and sultry. She looks confident and a superior women who isn't afraid of anything, I love the way she looks here and portrays herself. I would especially like to incorporate facial expressions and postures like this within my own shots as I want to my artist to be an established confident woman.
This mid shot shows only half of her body, but is capable of showing her personality through her posture and costume/clothing. Wearing bright red lip stick is an iconic statement for this artist Rita Ora. The shorts and beanie hat are stereo typically linked to a 'hipster' dress sense yet it still partially unique.
This long shot of Lady Gaga shows her more 'tame' style in clothing. She is hugely famous and word widely known for outrageous fashion sense for grabbing headlines. This has hugely fueled her pop music career and helped establish herself world wide. I particularly like the use of her sunglasses and long shiny pink skirt. Her posture is shy like, which I also like because it can be used against people in the saying 'butter wouldn't melt' when in fact she is a person with a huge personality.
This close up shot of Pixie Lotts face shows her hair and make-up which I am interesting in. I would like to add eye make up like this to my actress during the scene of her 'photo shoot' to make it look more realistic.
This mid shot has a great pose and attitude, it is giving off the impression she doesn't care and is doing as she pleases as well as looking good. She is posing with the cigarette and as I have been considering using something like this in my music video to portray the artist more I would consider using it in a way like this photo has.
This long shot shows a popular girl band 'The Saturdays' I'm looking at their choice of herstyles and look of home made jeans which is effective in this picture. I like the long hair and tousled look.
Long shot, as I am wanting to film scenes in the bath, I like the style of clothing and pose used in this picture of the pop artist. It gives off a fun vibe, whilst clutching a bottle of alcohol in her hand. I also am fliming a shot in which my actress has her legs across the bath and this would fit in with the lyrics 'act like I don't give a F**ck' The red iconic lipstick also out stands her lips and shows a womenly side.
This medium close up is very effective and is showing her anger, frustrating and the fact and she doesn't care at this time towards the person she is signalling this to. It also manages to make her still look glamorous and beautiful even when she is been unfeminine. I have a lyric within the song that says 'middle finger when it comes to love' This would be a great shot to film for it.

This medium close up shows a fun loving artist and the fact that she has her arms in the air shows she is dancing and playing around whilst in the middle of dancing or speaking. The crown also represtents she is important and again shows she is still femine.
Rob Kardashian shows an urban style in this long shot, with is layering of clothing and his trainers that stand out. He looks confident in himself and pulls off this style effectively,  I want my actor to have this similar affect even though he is going through a tough time.
This style again  is similar and 'indie' I want my actor to look similar to this medium close up.

Mise-en-scene of costume, hair and make-up will be a very important aspect in my music video as this is the way the artist will portray her image through. The clothing will be of an urban style which is used throughout many pop/rock and also Indie music videos and artists.   Her choice of clothing will change throughout different scenes within the music video to fit towards the lyrics and narrative. As I will also have another actor in my music video, his style will also fit the urban look and I have found several male celebrities which I will incorporate their style into his overall look. Make-up will also be essential in my music video for a scene in which the artist has been crying and is deeply upset, to portray this I am going to have lots of black make up running down her face and smudged cheeks and lips.

Lyrics Anaylse

Lyrics analysing of 'Been Lying' - Rita Ora
Don't wear my shades to be cool
I wear to hide my tears from you
Behind the smoke i'm so red eye
And i'm tired of you asking why
I said i've been lying to you
And i've been lying to me too
"Don't wear my shades to be cool, I wear to hide my tears from you" She wears sunglasses or referred to as 'shades' because the song was created by an american song writer, to her her tears from 'you' she is referring to the person the song is written about. The 'you' in my music video will refer to her other half, a boy, (Charlie) who she is breaking up with. "Behind the smoke i'm so red eye, and i'm tired of you asking why" Behind the smoke will refer to her pop star life and been on stage and red eyes will be because of her crying and been upset because of the break up. Her been tired of him asking why is as he has been questioning her lots wanting to know whats going on and she is confused and sick of the questions. "I said I've been lying to you, and I've been lying to me too" The name of the song is mentioned as part of the chorus is, she has been lying to her boyfriend but then a very deep line has been said shes been lying to herself, as if she is loosing herself in this whole relationship/breakup and has been lying to herself about it all as if to hide herself from the reality of it all.

My heart has been through hell and back
I've only dressed in pretty and black
Middle finger when it comes to love
Act like I don't really give a f-ck
Cause I've been lying to you
I said I've been lying to me too
"My heart has been through hell and back, I've only dressed in pretty and black" She hasn't had an easy time in this relationship and and refers to her heart been through hell and back, meaning she has had complete opposite feelings one been totally in love and the opposite been the worst feelings ever referring to hell. The clothes she has only worn have either been pretty girly clothes or plain black, this refers to her moods and matches them. "Middle finger when it comes to love, act like I don't really give a f***" The middle finger means swearing the typical 'fuck off' sign used in today's society towards people a rude gesture and frowned upon, something you certainly wouldn't do  in a formal environment. Putting her middle finger up makes her act like she doesn't care, when in reality she really does but it is much easier to pretend she does not care.
"Cause I've been lying to you, I said I've been lying to me too" The main line of the song is then repeated.

I've been lying, lying to you
Baby i've been lying, lying to me, too
I've been lying, lying to you
Baby i've been lying, lying to me, too
This is the course of the song, repeating that she has been lying to her other half repeatedly and also lying to herself, therefore loosing who she is and her identity which often happens in long term relationships they stop doing things they used to enjoy doing and hobbies die short, I'm going to portray in these lines several shots of doing things she used to love such as painting ect.

I don't always say what I want to say
I tattoo myself to show my pain
Don't lead in a crowded space even though we're both face to face
Cause i've been lying to you
Said i've been lying to me too
"I don't always say what I want to say" She is scared to always say what she wants to to0 her other half, maybe because she is afraid of hurting his feelings so therefore she has lied to try to protect him and keep him happy but in reality she has just lost herself.
"I tattoo myself to show my pain" She has tattoos onto herself to show her pain and despair, she feels this is the only way she can communicate her pain. "Don't lead in a crowded space even though we're both face to face" Neither of them try to lead the conversation/pace/relationship or the fact that they're dancing together at an event or club as they're face to face the closest they can be, but yet she or neither of them lead each other in public the time when they're most likely expected too. "Cause I've been lying to you, said I've been lying to me too" The again repeated line

Hurry up and wake for the spotlight
Looks like another whiskey night
What's inside they never expose
They only see what the camera shows
Cause i've been lying to you
Said I've been lying to me too, noo
"Hurry up and wake for the spotlight" Been a pop star she will be used to waking up early to fit to her tight schedule of business and interviews to fill and the spotlight is the media she had been thrown into. "Looks like another whiskey night, what's inside they never expose" Another whiskey night refers to drinking her problems away at the end of the day, in the only time she will have to herself and reflect on everything wrong within the relationship. What they never expose is referred to the Media never exposing what is really inside, obviously she is broken and suffering and drinking her problems away and these are inside her and they are never exposed to the Media for everyone to know. "They only see what the camera shows" The camera of the media only portrays what they want everyone else to see, or what her managers want everyone to see her been happy not broken and troubled. "Cause I've been lying to you, said I've been lying to me too, noo" The same repeated line again expect the add on of 'noo' almost denying it to herself.

I've been lying, lying to you
Baby I've been lying, lying to me, too
I've been lying, lying to you
Baby i've been lying, lying to me, too
The chorus of the song is again repeated.

It's like the whole world's getting at me
Tryin to make everyone happy, that ain't me
Walking around, wearing a smile, but deep down i'm really f-cked up, this ain't me
I don't wanna quit, tryin to hang with this
And figure it out who the hell I am
I don't mean to make you run away
But I don't wanna forget to be me
"Its like the whole world's getting at me" She feels trapped and suffocated by everyone in her life and feels like no matter what she does it isn't good enough for them "Tryin to make everyone happy, that ain't me" Tryin to make everyone happy that wasn't her before she used to just be herself and she doesn't understand how she has got into all this so deeply. "Walking around, wearing a smile, but deep down i'm really f**ked up, this ain't me" She isn't a girl who walks around and pretends to be happy as usually she is generally happy and she is so confused and upset by it all that she doesn't know how to get out of it all she describes herself as deep down shes really 'fucked up' as she is a mess inside. I want to show shots of her make-up running when she refers to this line. She repeats again this ain't me, emphasizing how much this isn't like her. "I don't wanna quit, tryin to hang with this" She doesn't want to give up on the relationship because obviously she has strong feelings for the boy and wants to try and 'hang in' by keep trying to make it work and work it out. "And try to figure out who the hell i am" She's forgotten who she is and lost her self identity she wants to find herself again without loosing her other half because she feels part of their problems are because she's not sure who she is no more and feels suffocated. "I don't mean to make you run away, but I don't wanna forget to be me" She doesn't want to push him away in figuring out this whole situation but it is also just as important that she fixes herself before she fixes the relationship.

The truth is I don't wanna lose you
But I don't wanna lose me too
She doesn't want to loose her boyfriend in all truth and honesty, but she can't loose herself or sanity either. She needs him to stick with her throughout it no matter how difficult it may become she has decided, a repeat of the same things she has been saying.
I've been lying, lying to you
Baby i've been lying, lying to me, too
I've been lying, lying to you
Baby i've been lying, lying to me, too

I've been lying, lying to you
Baby I've been lying, lying to me, too
I've been lying, lying to you
Baby i've been lying, lying to me, too
The chorus is then repeated twice to end the song, I'm going to show several shots of notes she has left around the place they stay saying where she has gone but obviously lies she has told, I want to show shots of her walking towards a car and getting in with the headlights on at night time to show she's been lying and to create the suspense of her been seeing somebody else.

Evaluation Essay

Evaluation Essay

In my AS media coursework I created a front cover, a contents page and a double page spread for a new music magazine I had created. I had to take my own original images for the magazine and create my own text for it. I had several photo shoots to ensure I had enough images for each section. My chosen genre of music for the magazine was Pop music. I choose pop music because I knew this had a large audience sample I could target. For practice before I made my music magazine I had to create a front cover and contents page for a college magazine. To create this I had to start using programmes such as publisher and Photoshop. I was new to the Photoshop programme and found it very confusing at the beginning. The front page had to be a medium close up image of my student in a college environment, which I then added text to the surrounding image to create the cover. I didn’t have many skills or knowledge in these programmes as I hadn’t had to use them before I started this course. My knowledge was very little in Photoshop and this is the programme I struggled to use most because of this. I was able to use publisher as I have often had to use this programme in school before for things such as leaflets and brochures and therefore was aware of its tools and abilities.

I gained many skills from all areas of ICT from programmes such as Publisher and Photoshop, as well as using new websites such as Blogger, Go Animate and Prezzi. I was able to learn how to edit photos to a high definition standard in Photoshop, I learnt how to air brush skin on my images which is used in all popular music and fashion magazines to enhance the look and glow of the model. I have learnt very useful editing techniques such as the ‘spot healing tool’ and ‘levels’ tool which help improve the image and its quality significantly in an easy way. There are also many tools and adjustment layers. I also learnt how to highlight, lighten, darken and enhance the image overall. I developed my skills further in Photoshop by learning how to edit out several parts in an image, add several images together, change the background and add a new image to a different background. I learnt how to add different fonts and bolder them, change the colours, lighten them, add outlines, add shadows, inner shadows, outlines and transparency to make them all look realistic to a font you would find in my genre of music. Doing this developed my skills in Photoshop and helped me become better at editing images and creating titles.

I researched into several existing music magazines of my genre (pop) to see what the conventions of a pop magazine was and learn insight to how they look, what you expect to see in them, how it is laid out and the images that are used in the magazines. I looked at magazines such as Sugar, Seventeen and Billboard all popular pop music magazines sold in the UK. I used LIAR to analyse each of the magazines front cover, contents page and double page spread. I noticed that most pop front covers had a medium close up image of the celebrity who would dominate the magazine, noticing this I decided to use one of my medium close up images I had taken to create one of my front covers, I also demonstrated with full length images of my model on front covers but decided that overall the medium close up images looked better. All mastheads where large bold and belonged at the top of the magazine cover, I decided to use a pink ‘pop’ colour for my title and keep the house theme pink, white and black for a pop yet professional look. I had my model dress in young, fashionable clothes that where up to date yet ones you would expect to see in a pop magazine. I ensured I took lots of images so that I was stuck if I changed my mind on the image I had chosen for something and that I had enough to decide on for the double page spread. I also made sure that all my image related to one another and that my front page image looked connected to my double page spread image, as I noticed this is a convention from all music magazines.

Overall I think my skills have improved dramatically over the course if you compare my college magazine drafts to my music magazine covers you can see instantly how much my skills have developed as I have more knowledge of how to edit everything on the page and more insight to what the conventions of a music magazine are.
